4 day weekends are nice

i got spoiled being off for 4 days. i didn’t want to do much at work today. i just need to find a job that only works 3 days a week every week and make lots of money so i can afford to go play every weekend. until that comes along, though, i guess i’ll just have to work every day.

MSU lost again last thursday. you just can’t win football games when you give up the ball 6 times on turnovers. i sure hope king jackie’s job is on the line for the rest of the year. maybe we can get someone like Bryan Stinespring. he was just named the offensive coordinator for va tech but he’s been in frank beamer’s program for 10 years. i’m sure he knows how to win. i think jackie has been around long enough. we need someone who does more coaching than walking around writing on a clipboard.

the adaton mud bowl was a lot of fun yesterday. last year we had probably 25 people. this year there were about 65 there. i had a great time. i’m still digging dirt out of my ears and nose. you just can’t beat a good game of mud football.

  • another tip from tech tv & 9/11–one year ago

i’ve never used a download manager. most of them are loaded with spyware and other crap. but yesterday the screen savers recommended www.stardownloader.com i haven’t actually finished a file yet but i’ve been trying for 2 days to get the SP1 network version for XP and this seems to be the first way i’ll be able to get it. i’ll find out in about an hour whether it worked or not. so far it seems to work pretty well. it starts 4 download streams and puts them all together. i might stick with this one.

i’m also very impressed with the way television is handling the 9/11 rememberance today. there were some very moving shows on ESPN last night and today the history channed is showing all 9/11 specials commercial free. i think the nation has shown the proper respect for the tragedy of that day.

  • the internet is a wonderful thing

i was reading a magazine today about the next generation home entertainment machines. they are going to be DVD/CD/Tivo machines with built in capability to serv audio and video to any TV in the house via wireless networking and will be connected to the internet for downloads. there is a fight now on how to set up the intellectual property laws that will no doubt be tested when these type machines hit the consumer in the next 3-5 years and there are other fights over who owns the equipment, the data, and the content of the data. all this boils down to the fact that while it may be more expensive in some respects, the day is coming where you can watch any program past or present any time you want and replay it as many times as you want.

along the same lines, i downloaded a bunch of “triumph the insult comic dog” videos of the conan obrien show. while i don’t usually thing triumph is that funny on the show, the star wars premier and the bon jovi special videos are hilarious. go to your favorite file sharing program and check these two out.

also, if you use XP, download SP1 released yesterday. there are some pretty significant security fixes in it.
